I know that parents and nannies need some tips on how to provide a space that is active and creative in the home. I know that when I am working with children, I love placing some sort of protective shield on the table or desk area. I often will use an old birthday tablecloth instead of throwing it away. I just used my old plastic shower curtain for play-dough making and old sponges for painting and easy clean up.
Kids get overwhelmed much easier then us adults, so keep the supplies in small groups and rotate the supplies each week or month so that your child will be able to start to understand how organization will improve their everyday life.
Some easy things that will help you become more organized are see-through bins that are labeled and possibly have the picture of what’s inside. This will help visually when its clean-up time. I love using hang-up shoe dividers for supplies like glue, hole punchers, rulers, cookie cutters, and other small tools that will be easy to access.
Most of all, have fun with your kids, allow them to do the art work, and as hard as it may be, sit back and watch. Only interfere when your child asks for help or you see that he or she is in danger.
